Japanese actor Yuzuru Hirano, who played Shindo in the original Japanese television series, has died.
He was 84.
His son, Yuji Hirano , said Hirano had passed away Thursday at a hospital in Tokyo.
A post-mortem examination was scheduled for Friday, the family said.
A source close to the family confirmed Hirano died.
The original Japanese TV series, which ran from 1985 to 1988, was a hit with Japanese audiences.
It was revived for the U.S. market in 2011 with the release of the second season, Life Code, which also starred Hirano.
It was the second Japanese actor to play Shindos in the series, joining Takashi Imanishi, who also played the role in the U and UK seasons.
Hirano also starred in the popular Japanese television show, The Love Interests of Shindoshō.
